How to get Soft, Shiny, and Silky Hair!

Every so often, I hear girls say they have tried millions of products on their hair and nothing works for them. Almost everyone dyes their hair nowadays (including myself) and everyone is looking for a hair treatment that can make their hair smooth and silky. There are tons of products at the store that claim to be natural but actually have chemicals inside of them that aren’t 100% natural. There are also products that ARE 100% natural but cost a fortune. Let’s be honest, healthy hair should not be costly. So I’m going to tell you a few different ways to keep your hair soft, shiny, and healthy while keeping a budget.

1. Hair Masks!

There are several hair masks out there, but the best thing you can possibly do is to make one on your own! Here are a couple recipes…

  • Coconut oil! That’s it! Coconut oil fits inside of your hair shaft to repair any damaged strands. Leave on hair for about an hour then shampoo out. Your hair will be so soft and smooth!
  • Coconut Oil, Avocado, Olive Oil! This hair mask is for people with dry scalps. Avocado is nourishing to the scalp and hair by providing a rich source of proteins and vitamins. Leave on hair for about an hour then shampoo out.
  • Grapeseed Oil, Egg! Grapeseed Oil contains tons of Vitamin E, which promotes growth and health of hair. Egg is perfect to use for all hair types because of the proteins that it contains. Whether you have greasy, dry, or normal hair, egg will give your hair the strength it needs! Leave on hair for about an hour then shampoo out.

If you would like to add any other natural ingredients to your hair masks depending on your hair type feel free to do so!

2. Stay Away From The Heat!

Ladies, I know how difficult it is to stray away from the curling irons and straighteners but it is a MUST in order to have strong healthy hair! Think of it like you would think of delicious junk food, “Everything in moderation is fine.” Use these tools for special occasions when you want your hair to have that little something extra. I used to hate my natural hair, but the healthier my hair started to get, the easier it was to wear naturally and do cute braids with it. There is nothing more satisfying than getting compliments on your cute braided hairstyles! (And they give you fabulous curls when you take the braid out.) Bam! Two hairstyles with braids and NO heat!

3. Henna Hair Treatment

There are so many different colors of Henna that your can use. Aside from being a temporary tattoo, Henna is used to dye hair. It’s 100% natural dried leaves of Lawsonia Inermis and is a hair treatment as well as a hair dye. If you’re looking into dying your hair, this may be an option if you do not want to damage your hair at all. (However, henna IS permanent, so be sure you want to do it.) Natural henna tints your hair a reddish color, while mixing henna with indigo powder can give you brown and even black tones. I have dyed my hair with Red Henna and Brown Henna and my hair feels so silky and strong! Do your research on it to see if this is something you would be interested it. (P.S, Henna is lightened with the use of coconut oil) It is definitely budget friendly so I recommend it! I’ll leave a few photos below of my hennaed hair!

This first set of photos is after I dyed my hair Red with Henna I purchased at my local Indian Market. The sun gives it this fiery autumn tone and the color worked well with my natural hair.

This second set of photos is my hair after I hennaed it brown yesterday. I love how it turned out. I used Lush’s Caca Brun. It’s a rich chocolate brown color and perfect for this season.
