I’m excited to announce that Sorin Starts a School was chosen as a gold medal winner in the Illumination book awards in the Children’s Picture Book category. It’s an honor to be included among so many amazing books released in 2022!
If you’re not familiar with Sorin Starts a School, it’s a book I illustrated about the history of the founding of the University of Notre Dame. It’s a great (true!) story, has lots of fun illustrations of the Notre Dame campus, and is a solid introduction to the spirituality of the Congregation of Holy Cross. You can check out the book here.
One of my favorite places to share the book is at Notre Dame. I shared in my newsletter about a reading I did at the Notre Dame bookstore. The kids and adults present had fantastic questions about the book, and I had a great time talking with them about what it was like to make the book!

If that wasn’t enough excitement, we then received news that The Examen Book had been chosen by the Independent Press Awards as a Distinguished Favorite in the religion category! If you haven’t read it yet, The Examen Book guides you through the Examen prayer, written by St. Ignatius of Loyola. It’s a companion book to the first book Paul and I made, Audacious Ignatius. You can check out more about The Examen Book here.
Excited to share and celebrate these new awards!
